Where Is Honey Located On The Food Pyramid?

  • Sharebar

I was eating a peanut butter and honey sandwich and got curious for what it was. I know that it contains a lot of anti oxidants for your body, and also contains protein. It also contains a lot of natural sugars. It is also used for many health/hygiene care. I really don’t think its located anywhere on the food pyramid, it doesn’t match any of the curriculum’s of the food and it doesn’t belong at the very top, its to healthy. any suggestions? Please provide back up.

Honey falls under the sugars category, Its pretty much all Fructose and Glucose which are both sugars. Yes it does contain some anti oxidants and other agents that are healthy because it is natural but it is pretty much pure sugar so would fall under the sweets category. So yea try not to eat to many pb and honey sandwiches hahahttp://sci-toys.com/ingredients/honey.ht…

There are three main nutrients in food that provide calories/energy: Carbohdyrates (sugar), Protein, and Fat.
Honey is virtually PURE carbohydrate (sugar) and has virtually no protein or fat. It falls under the “sweets” part of the food pyramid and should be eaten in moderation. When it comes down to it the body doesn’t know the difference between the sucrose (sugar) in honey or white table sugar.
YES, there are trace micronutrients in honey and some antioxidants, but you can get TONS of antioxidants from eating a variety fruits, veggies, and whole grains.
That said, honey is NOT bad for you. I love making open face sandwiches of whole grain toast with a little margarine, honey and covered in roasted walnuts. It’s delicious. So it’s a perfectly fine treat, but ultimately not anything that you need to worry about getting MORE of.
