Psoriasis is a common and chronic skin disease which can appear anywhere on the body but is found mostly on the knees and elbows.
What causes psoriasis?
Psoriasis is described as a chronic skin disorder but is actually an immune system disease triggered by our skin cells multiplying faster than they are supposed to. This leads to an accumulation of skin cells on the surface of the skin which show as raised red patches of skin, covered with silvery scales.
Psoriasis treatment currently consists of topical lotions and ointments such as calamine lotion or coal tar ointment which can be messy and ineffective, as well as drugs taken internally which come with side effects.
Psoriasis can be very uncomfortable and even painful in severe cases. There is no known cure, but the best way to control psoriasis is to support the immune system from within. There are natural remedies which we can take to support immunity and skin health. Anything we put on the skin itself should be a natural product as mineral oil and other chemicals found in skin care can further irritate the condition
