What Causes Hyperhydrosis And What Are The Different Treatments?

  • Sharebar

Excess sweating is the result of hyper active sweat glands, especially in specific regions for example the armpits, feet, hands, face, groin and back. Unlike regular sweating, which controls body temperature, in people with hyperhidrosis, there is heavy perspiration, not because of external factors such as a hot room, a hot day or exercise but constantly.

If your hyper hidrosis doesn’t happen with other symptoms, and isn’t non-localiased all-over body sweating, it’s termed primary hyperhidrosis. If the excess sweating is also accompanied by other symptoms and is a generalised sweating, then it’s considered to be secondary hyper hidrosis and is usually the result of either an underlying medical condition or an underlying medical condition.

It’s not known what causes primary hyperhidrosis, but it is believed that the sympathetic nervous system is over stimulated which causes excess sweat production from the sweat glands. Sweat glands are controlled by sections of the nerve system that is not consciously controllable. It is the same part of out nerve system that regulates the muscles of our digestive system… it operates without us doing anything to control it. It is thought that in hyper hidrosis, emotion, anxiety and stress may play a role, but it’s largely speculation and guesswork because the cause is simply not known.

One interesting clue regarding the cause of hyper hydrosis is that it appears to run in families which implies that certain genes may be involved.

Treatment of hyperhydrosis, if it’s primary hyperhidrosis, are many and varied. They range from basic over the counter anti-perspirants and deoderants for low-level hyper hidrosis through to surgery such as removal of the sweat glands, or cutting the nerve responsible for activating the sweat glands. Many people have found relief through the use of cheap home remedies for hyperhidrosis, especially when many different remedies are used together. It may be wise to consider simple, cheap options before expensive surgery or drugs.
