What Age Is Good To Let A Child Sleep In Their Own Room?

  • Sharebar

My 22 month old has been sleeping in the room with me since she was born. She does have her own baby bed that she sleeps in. My boyfriend recently moved in with me and there’s not a lot of space. I have an older daughter who’s almost 6 and have her own room and I was thinking about moving the baby in there, but (because of school) my daughter isn’t home all the time and I’m worried that the baby will be sleeping in a room all by her self.

Just try it during like nap times and stuff first, and she is probably old enough. I have a problem that I think is similar, and it is probably us more than the kids. I think they would be fine in their own room, but we are too worried about them and wouldn’t get much sleep if they weren’t right there by us that we could check on them just by looking over. Maybe you could try some of those new monitors, they are like little tv’s and you can see them. Good luck!

I don’t see a problem with this. When a baby wakes up and wants attention they create enough noise to alert you to come get them.

My son was sleeping in his own room long before he was even sleeping through the night. Probably around 3 months.
You will very likely have some work ahead of you as your daughter is probably used to sharing your room.
Only a parent knows what is best for their child. But there’s no reason why your daughter shouldn’t be able to sleep in a room alone.

Whoa, get that child into their own room as soon as possible. It is going to be difficult at this age to make the transition. Around 3 months is more of an ideal time to move an infant into their own rooms. Don’t worry that the toddler (she is NOT a baby) is in a room by herself, she should be.

you worry too much…your kid should have already been in her own room.

all of my children moved to their own rooms, sometimes all by themsleves sometimes they had to share a room, as soon as they were sleeping through the night, ( 5 -12 months) or at least only waking up once. You may have problems since she is already used to sleeping with you in the room, buy her a little night light and for my 22 month old I have a little wind op teddy bear that we turn on every night. You may have to escort her back to her room quite a few times until she gets used to it. Just stick with it, and make he stay in her room, unless of course there is a thunderstorm or she has a nightmare. If you are a little uncomfortable put a baby monitor in there, but most will make enough noise if they need you. Good luck

I wouldn’t call 22 months a baby…my son was diving at that age. He was in his own room at 3 months, same with our daughter. They come into our room for cuddles in the morning and for stories at bedtime.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a child sleeping in a room alone……………………………….. while she’s in there, alone, play some calm soothing music and she’ll be fine.

They can sleep in their own room at birth, making sure that you can easily hear them.
