Reconstructive Plastic Surgery vs Aesthetic Cosmetic Surgery

  • Sharebar

There is a distinct difference between plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.  The difference lies in the fact that  plastic surgery, also known as reconstructive surgery, normally allows for repairing defective structures of the body. These irregularities might have been caused by congenital defects, trauma, injuries and even tumors, such as breast and skin cancer. Cosmetic surgery on the other hand is carried out to improve appearance and boost self esteem by repairing or remolding normal body parts.

Surprisingly, there are just as many men opting for this type of elective surgery, as there are women. Neck liposuction surgery is amongst the more popular operations for men, which involves getting rid of areas of fat and sculpturing the neck to improve looks. Quite often, additional facial surgery like a face lift and chin liposuction will be carried out at the same time. The reasons given by men, who choose this form of surgery, range from viewing it as an investment in them selves to being work related.

Many people feel that we live in a beauty, youth fixated culture and that this form of surgical procedure is almost necessary in order to be successful in both career and relationships. Nevertheless, while plastic surgery maybe a viable alternative for many, it may not be the choice of everybody. Each of us has a self image, a sense of how we consider we look to others. It has been demonstrated that folks who feel good about their self image are more than likely to be self confident, as well as more successful in both work and social situations. Those who are not satisfied tend to be self-conscious, inhibited and less adept at holding their own in social situations.

Once the surgical procedure has been carried out, a certain amount of recuperation time will be needed. This convalescence period varies from person to person and is, to a certain degree, dependant on the form of surgery. However, physical convalescence is one thing but there are also emotional issues to deal with, which may take a lot longer to heal. Indeed, many folks do not even think about the psychological aspects of liposuction cosmetic surgery. Physicians on the other hand will discuss these issues with potential patients before any surgical operations so they will know what to expect.

Of course, there are numerous reasons why somebody may elect to have plastic surgery. Nonetheless, there are things to take into account and keep in mind prior to having a procedure. Surgeons can only work with what is there, meaning that they are unable to mold somebodies looks as if they were made of clay. There are certain considerations, such as a persons general health, their age and skin texture. Physicians tell us another important consideration is the persons frame of mind before the operation. If they assume this is going to in some way make them beautiful and fix all of their issues, then they are very likely not a good candidate for this type of procedure.

Reconstructive plastic surgery is usually performed to improve function, but it may be done to approximate a normal appearance and Cosmetic Surgery defined as a subspecialty of surgery that uniquely restricts itself to the enhancement of appearance through surgical and medical techniques……….thank
