Pros And Cons Of Taking Cod Fish Oil

  • Sharebar

It is hard to overestimate the importance of fish oil for your health. One of the best fish oils is considered to be cod fish oil. Despite, you should know that together with numerous advantages it also has some drawbacks. Now let’s look at both sides a bit closer.

The main thing is that the cod liver oil is rich in omega-3 content. On the other hand it is better to take fish oils derived from the flesh of fish, rather than the liver, due to the fact that they are richer in omega-3. The importance of the latter is hard to lessen, as it is required for the healthy function of the heart, the brain, the digestive system, the joints, and other systems of the body. Omega-3s cannot be produced inside the body. So it should get to our body from food or through supplementation. These acids are mainly presented by DHA and EPA. The best know source of such acids is fish. The health benefits provided by DHA and EPA cannot be compared with the other omega-3 fatty acid, such as, for example, ALA.

Additionally, it should be mentioned that cod fish oil is full of vitamin E. the latter helps the body process the fatty acids. In addition, it is an essential antioxidant and it gives the health for both your skin and hair. Other important vitamins are vitamin A and vitamin D. For instance, vitamin D is necessary for our body to absorb calcium and is important in order to prevent osteoporosis and maintaining bone health. It’s not a secret: our body needs them, but their amount should be adequate. The cod liver oil numbers more units of vitamins than anyone needs on a daily basis. The large amount may be even toxic.

The other important thing is that Omega-3 provides us with is that fish oil lower cholesterol. The thing is that these acids increase the amount of HDL, or in other words so-called “good” cholesterol. At the same time Omega-3 reduces risky triglycerides, which may cause inflammation and heart disease.

If you are afraid of the risks that may arose while taking cod oil, you may of course replace it with the fish oil derived from the flesh of fish as such oil is not rich in the vitamins A and D. But, to tell the truth, this cod liver oil is the best source of these vitamins. So it is always better to take the natural cod oil instead of taking other supplements. So if you want to increase your health in a natural way – there is nothing better than cod liver oil.
