Although many women make the mistake of eating for two, it is nonetheless true that pregnancy nutrition requires extra nutrition. The way the mother-to-be eats influences the growth level and the harmonious development of the baby. More calories, more protein and high levels of minerals and vitamins: this is the most concise way of summing up the main features of pregnancy nutrition.

In general lines, here are the foods that pregnancy nutrition should include daily.

Cheese, yogurt and milk are essential because they provide lots of calcium: this mineral is a must-have for the baby’s bone system, and it can by no means be absent from diet.

Pregnancy nutrition also excludes some foods that could harm you and your baby. Here are some of the foods that are considered troublesome and should be avoided.

The main problem comes with food-borne illness as it is the case with:

-unpasteurized juice or milk, because they can cause contaminants that may harm the baby;

-do not eat eggnog, salad dressings or mayonnaise that are made with raw eggs because they can carry some high-risk bacteria;

-raw fish dishes like sushi can cause parasitic infections;

-eat little ocean fish because of the high mercury content that tile-fish, shark or swordfish can accumulate.

Other things you should know about pregnancy nutrition is that you have to keep it as natural as possible. There are foods that contain lots of additives like nitrates that you usually take from diet sodas for instance. Limit the consumption during pregnancy so that no chemicals should pass through the placenta and harm your baby.

Keep pregnancy nutrition moderate and you’ll be safe from overweight too. Even if you have some of your favorite sweets once in a while or a diet soda, you should not use them as part of your daily diet. Keep in mind that the most important thing is to keep your baby safe and away from all the toxins that could harm it.
