Natural inflammation treatments – do they work?
Natural inflammation treatments are safer and can be more effective than chemical drugs, such as statins. They also help prevent chronic inflammation from developing in the first place.
Inflammation can be both a savior and a killer. When we injure ourselves, our bodies immediately go into defense mode and rush inflammatory substances to the site of the wound via the blood stream to protect it. Similarly if a disease threatens us, for example a common cold virus, inflammation comes to the rescue again. This is known as the inflammation response.
However inflammation can become chronic and then it can be a disease in itself. chronic inflammation is caused by a wide range of things from poor diet, insufficient sleep, food intolerances and stress to name just a few. This is the inability of our bodies to switch off the chronic inflammation response when it is no longer needed.
Chronic inflammation can manifest a wide range of health problems including rheumatoid arthritis, heart disease, diabetes and even cancer. In fact it is only fairly recently that scientists have discovered the serious effects of this disease and the large percentage of the population it affects.
Mainstream medicine has it’s own way of dealing with this epidemic with a raft of drugs that are supposed to lower chronic inflammation and indeed some of them do. However they bring along a lot of side effects, too many to go into here.
Natural inflammation treatments can be used to quench the fire of inflammation in the body and bring down the risk of a host of diseases. Here’s a list of things you can do right now to radically decrease chronic inflammation in the body or, even better, prevent it from occurring in the first place.
Natural inflammation treatments you can implement straight away
Remember the saying, “You dig your grave with your teeth”? Nowhere is this more true than when it applies to chronic inflammation. Trans fats and simple carbohydrates like white flour, white rice and sugar (of any color) will increase the insulin response. Simply removing these foods from your diet will drastically improve your health. Some natural doctors advocate giving up carbohydrates altogether but few people actually manage to do this. The best approach is to include all food groups in the same meal – good fats, proteins and carbohydrates which tends to slow down the release of insulin.
There are also foods which are natural inflammation treatments in themselves. One of the most potent of these is omega 3 oil (fish is the best source of this). There are vegetarian sources such as flaxseed but fish oil continues to provide the best bio-available source. Don’t become confused between Omega 3 and Omega 6 oils. Omega 6 can displace Omega 3 in the body and should therefore be restricted. Don’t listen to the margarine ads which tell you Omega 6 is healthy. They’re interested in selling their product, not in your health!
Take a multivitamin. Vitamins B, C, D and E can all reduce chronic inflammation. Because it is difficult to obtain all these from food alone, just take a good multivitamin to start with. Later you can refine your approach together with a natural doctor and perhaps take the ones that you need as an individual.
Reduce the stress and anxiety in your life! Getting good quality sleep is paramount as is taking measures to reduce work stress and stress and anxiety at home. There are many ways to do this including yoga, relaxation exercises and special programs for anxiety.
It’s important to practice the above natural inflammation treatments as a preventative measure to stop the onset of chronic inflammation and drastically reduce it if it is already present because your life probably depends on it!
