A natural cure for diabetes instead of drugs?

The answer really depends on what type of diabetes you have. There are two types of diabetes. Type 1 is called Diabetes Mellitus. In this type, the pancreas is unable to manufacture insulin which is essential to convert glucose into energy. This type of diabetes is insulin dependant and there is no natural cure for diabetes type 1 at the present time.

Type 2 diabetes or Diabetes Insipidus is usually brought on by lifestyle factors, typically a person’s diet. In this type, insulin is produced, but the cells become resistant and it is not properly absorbed and converted into energy. A natural cure for diabetes type two is possible and many people have achieved this by simply adjusting their diet.

A natural cure for diabetes by weight control

If you are overweight and have type 2 diabetes, then shedding some weight is the absolute best thing you can do. Type 2 used to be called “adult onset diabetes” because it usually developed in older people who had diets high in carbohydrates and didn’t exercise much. Unfortunately we are now seeing type 2 in children for exactly the same reasons.

Although losing weight is the best natural cure for diabetes, many people find this very hard to do. A lot of people try to shed pounds by eating low fat products. This does not work and has probably contributed to the onset of diabetes in the first place. Most “low fat” foods have extra sugar and salt added to compensate for the flavor lost by removing some of the fat. A successful diet for diabetes aims to lower carbohydrates rather than fats.

All foods will cause a rise in insulin when eaten. What’s important is to keep that rise to a minimum by eating foods that don’t cause a large insulin spike. This will help the body to better absorb the insulin from the blood into the cells and prevent insulin resistance. To do this may take some time and perseverance, but you will see results.

Foods which can produce a natural cure for diabetes

Here are some healthy foods which will help you achieve your goal of a natural cure for diabetes. Most vegetables except potatoes and corn, fruit (up to 2 serves a day), lean meats, fish and legumes such as as beans and lentils. Include healthy fats such as Omega 3 found in oily fish. If you don’t eat a lot of fish, supplementing with Omega 3 is a great idea, as it is cheap and has many health benefits. If weight is not a big problem, you can include some carbohydrates, but make sure they are complex carbohydrates like brown rice and wholegrain products.

Foods to avoid completely

Anything containing sugar. Be careful here as a lot of package and tinned foods contain sugar to add flavor, even those that don’t taste sweet. Check packets of cereals, tins of baked beans and soy milk. Sugar lurks where you least expect it so read labels. Also avoid white flour, white rice and pasta. Spelt pasta is okay in moderation.

Remember to exercise daily as well to boost your weight loss efforts. A natural cure for diabetes can be achieved by diet and exercise alone if you are prepared to put in the effort.
