I worry that I’m losing touch with the natural cycle of the day being trapped under fluorescent lighting in front of a computer all day.

  1. It happened to me for years, I was locked up in a vault but my outside activity after work hours was all outside.

it would be for me.. I quit a job the same as you have and I now work in an environment that changes everyday. I paint houses and sat behind a desk for years, I love the change of going to different places all the time and meeting new people, not to mention the satisfaction I get from improving peoples lives. I would never sit behind a desk in a fake environment again. I just didn’t feel good sitting there all day!

I don’t know about harmful, but you are missing out on the benefits of the sun. Vitamin D, for example, is a vitamin that we recieve naturally through sun exposure. The pineal gland, behind the eyes, is responsible for the manufacture of serotonin, a neurochemical and natural anti-depressant. That explains why people get the “winter blues”.
Once I involved in a college program that was inside all day. Away from windows, and in the late winter, meant that I was getting almost no natural light. Of course I started feeling despondent, apathetic, and lethargic moreso than I had been before.
To remedy the problem, I used my lunch break and class breaks to walk around the block. The exercise, fresh air, and sunlight were enough to re-stabilize me until spring arrived.

yeah. There are windows here but there is a huge filing cabinet blocking my view. It is sad. I come to work and it is dark and I leave work and it is dark. Blah, blah, blah!
