Is the Economy Causing Sleep Disorders?

Surveys have shown an increase in sleep problems as people become more and more anxious about the economic downturn. People are lying awake worrying and this is leading to an increase in the use of sleeping pills.

Now I know it’s easy to say, but there “ain’t no use in worrying!” The world has been in this situation before – a few times – and things have always improved.

You may be thinking, “I don’t know if my job’s going to be there next week, I don’t know how I’m going to be able to support my family!” Of course you have a right to be concerned, but remember there are thousands of people in the same predicament.

Worrying isn’t going to make this crisis go away any time soon. Worrying will simply make things worse.

When things go wrong I find gratitude helps. Think of all the things you are grateful for – come on there must be something! – then focus on those things and feel gratitude for them. It’s not possible to feel fear and gratitude at the same time!

So focus on the positive. This does get easier with practice.

And please stay away from sleeping pills! Go to for help on better sleep and reducing stress.
