Has Your Child Ever Had Whooping Cough? If So, Did Anything Help Control Their Cough So They Could Sleep?

  • Sharebar

We are waiting on the results of my son’s Whooping Cough test. (I am nearly convinced that is what he has.) He’s 16 mos old. For anyone who’s been through this with a young child (under 2), was there anything you were able to give them that enabled them to sleep? My son hasn’t had more than 15 min of uninterrupted sleep in the past four days. His Ped recommended Delsym, but that was before they suspected whooping cough. The Delsym isn’t working. Please don’t tell me I need to ask his doctor. He’s obviously under medical care and I WILL ask about cough medication once they can confirm his diagnosis. For now, I’m just curious as to other people’s experiences.

My son never had whooping cough but he was born with croupe which sounds just like whooping cough, doctor advised i use a steamer in his room at night and gave me some medicine to bring down the swelling in his throat so that he could breathe better! if you child has croupe, they should grow out of it around the age of 5yrs.

I am sorry for what you are going through, my youngest sister had whooping cough as a new born. She was exposed in the hospital when she was born, and at 2 weeks she was diagnosed and put in a children’s hospital for two weeks. It was horrible to watch her go through it. I was 16 at the time and took shifts at the hospital 2 hours away to give my mother a break. She was in an oxygen tent and would strangle just trying to take a bottle. We found that if we held her upright to sleep she found some relief and could sleep for an hour or so at a time. It is difficult and frustrating but it will pass. Just do the best you can and know that it is curable. I will keep you and your son in my prayers.

“Both of my son,s had early diagnosis of asthma “As i did
    when i was younger.”
For them ; i gave them a little shot of strong coffee {“Not hot “} And rubbed their chest with Vapor -Rub.’
I also followed up with five cc’s of a drug called Abuterol
“and” either “Cromylin Sodium {‘” One half cc”} “or” a
    drug called “Broncho Saline’ solution.
