Food intolerances can cause a lot of health problems

How do you cut your health care costs in half? According to Dr Jonathan Wright, you can do that by cutting your health problems in half. Makes sense!

According to Dr Wright, a lot of health problems are caused by food allergies and food intolerances. Food allergies produce and instant and unpleasant reaction when a certain food is eaten and are fairly easy to identify because of this. A food intolerance is more subtle and can pose a more serious risk to health, as the person who has the food intolerance is not aware of the problem and will go on eating that particular food thus compounding the problem.

Because food intolerances usually display minor symptoms they are not taken seriously by the medical profession. However they are still low grade allergies and are still affecting our immune system.

The main types of food intolerances

What are the main foods that cause food intolerances? People can be intolerant to many foods. Lactose – found in milk and dairy is quite a common trigger for a condition called lactose intolerance , nuts and peanuts are another as are shellfish and eggs. But the most prevalent has to be gluten which is found in wheat. This means everything made from flour can trigger immune responses in susceptible people.

People high on the risk list are those who eat a lot of one particular food (e.g. bread or pasta) The risk for gluten intolerance is such, that I would recommend everyone have a few gluten free days a week. There are many gluten free products available today which taste just as nice, but they will give your digestion and immune system a break.food intolerances

Yes you can be tested for food intolerances. Contact your health professional and ask for a food intolerance test which will check for IgG antibodies.

By the way all grains, except rice & corn, contain gluten. Sad but true.
