Eczema, a Most Irritating Skin Complaint!

  • Sharebar

Around 2% of the population suffers with eczema (atopic dermatitis). Although eczema can run in families, It’s not contagious – meaning you can’t catch it from anyone else.

The cause of eczema is probably an immune system response as well as hereditary factors. Triggers include soaps, allergens in the atmosphere, cosmetics, emotional stress, bacteria and sweating. Dry skin is more susceptible too.

The symptoms of eczema include intense itching, burning and redness. Lesions can form which eventually crust over.

Eczema treatments are usually steroid creams, oral steroids or anti-histamines. Steroid creams can have nasty side effects whereas anti-histamines can ease the itching, but they’re a temporary solution that doesn’t work for everyone.

Use natural skin care products for eczema as these are less irritating to your skin. Also try to avoid the things that are causing your eczema flare ups. Avoid any skin creams or lotions with fragrance as these are a prime culprit. Keep your skin moisturized to avoid drying out, but only use a natural moisturizer of course :-) )
