The term relaxation response meditation was put forward by Herbert Benson MD, from Harvard Business School. This technique has been in use with different names and with different aspects, be it religious or cultural. To name some Yoga, Zen and transcendental meditation are such techniques of relaxation response. Regular meditation of this sort has valuable effects other than relaxation such as patience and improved attentiveness.

The process of relaxation response meditation makes it possible to control the thought process to stick on to one particular thing at a time. Initially the practice seems complicated but with continuous practice, it is as good as a child’s play.

# Sit in a comfortable position
# Close your eyes
# Concentrate between your eyebrows
# Stay focused on every inhalation and exhalation
# Keep relaxing with every breath
# Repeat the ‘om’ chant with every exhalation to induce relaxation

Taking rest is quite often misunderstood as relaxation. Relaxation is a technique that needs to be learnt and taken effort to perform. A relaxation response with meditation has shown remarkable differences by refreshing mind and body that is even reflected in day-to-day performances.

Getting Ready For Relaxation Response Meditation

# A room with good cross-ventilation is to be chosen to carry out meditation.
# The room chosen has to be tidy.
# A candle or flowers in the room could be arranged for.
# Clothes worn have to be comfy.
# Cell phones and other disturbing elements could be either put off or kept away.
# Incense sticks or aromatic oil diffusers could be used that enhances positive mood.

You can even try practicing relaxation response meditation in the open wild nature. You can choose a small hill, a forest, a beach or even the Himalayas.

Sincere practice of relaxation response meditation might end up showing you a new person in yourself since it is a highly powerful technique in producing significant physiological changes in the body. It makes the journey through stressful situations pleasant and ensures a life free from stress. The effect of relaxation response disproves the impossibility of gaining nothing by losing nothing.
