A chiropractic adjustment is supposed to bring you relief from back pain. However it is not uncommon to hear people complain about pain after chiropractor adjustment. So what is the truth? Does chiropractic adjustment actually work, and if it does why do some people experience pain after chiropractor adjustment?

There are several reasons that you might experience pain after an adjustment, some of them are perfectly normal and others are indicative of a more serious illness. It comes down to the type of back pain you are experiencing as this will determine how productive the procedure is.

Acute back pain is most easily solved with a visit to the chiropractors. Even a chiropractor association might warn you about feeling some discomfort after a treatment. This initial discomfort is either due to a muscle spasm or you may have been tensed up during the treatment. This feeling will eventually subside and you will be feeling better very soon.

While this is not the first reason you might be experiencing pain after chiropractor adjustment, cancer is a possible cause of back pain. If you have not been to the doctor before seeing your chiropractor and your back pain persists despite repeated sessions you should see a medical doctor. This is something you want to rule out quickly so it is always best to see a doctor when you first experience back pain. This can be done with a simple scan.

Repetitive Stress Pain

If you are constantly experiencing pain despite your best efforts at the chiropractor’s office then it might be time to review the activities you perform throughout the day. If you experience pain after several chiropractor adjustments then you could be experiencing repetitive stress pain.

This is usually due to a job or activity that requires you to strain yourself physically. It can also be a result of sitting in one position too long. In this case you need to change the way you come near the activity that is causing the stress to your back.

Taking breaks if your job is physically demanding and staying hydrated is one way to stay healthy. If you sit in one position for long periods of time then getting up to do some flexibility exercises or walking around can also help.  Talk to your chiropractor about exercises you can perform to prevent pain in the future. Consider all possibilities if you still feel pain after chiropractor adjustment.
