Can Soft Drinks Be Good for Your Health?

Majority opinion seems to be that “soda pop” is by definition unhealthy. But could this be a myth?

In the US, we have many flavored drinks and we call carbonated drinks “soda pop”. Why does soda pop “fizz?” Carbonation.

The quality and different tastes of various carbonated drinks, including soda pop, is caused by the amount of dissolved CO2 which causes carbonic acid in the drink.  Click here for more carbonated water information.

In most soft drinks, carbonation is used to give these drinks their distinctive taste. Diluted carbonic acid is what causes the fizzy sensation, not the bubbles.

Carbonated water is plain water into which CO2 gas has been dissolved; also known as sparkling water, it is the main ingredient of most “soft drinks”.

In the past, these drinks were made at home by putting water in a seltzer bottle, then adding CO2. Club soda is identical to plain carbonated water or it may contain a small pinch of salt, or trace minerals. Home-made soda pop might taste more salty than normal because of these ingredients. Add some drops of concentrated flavors and now you have… soda pop.

With enough mineral content, the drink is called sparkling water. At allfreightfree.com you can find a large assortment of calorie-free flavors to jazz up sparkling water with great tastes. This could be a great option for your family instead of drinking so much soda pop.

Carbonated drinks in the form of diet soda pop can be a calorie-free way to make sure your family drinks plenty of water; we all know that the better the drinks taste, the more your kids will drink, and the more they drink, the healthier it is for your family.

If anyone in your family competes athletically, this flavored drink will also make sure they stay properly hydrated while exercising. This has been an extremely hot summer; but heat or no heat, most colleges and high schools have begun two-a-day football practices. Perhaps, football mom, you could provide the team flavored carbonated drinks and make sure everyone drinks the amounts that they need and stays well-hydrated.The kids — and maybe the coach — will love you. Maybe this would be a fun project for your football booster club to take on.

The extreme temperatures made it a dangerous summer even in Texas, which is used to hot summers; and has made drinking water extremely important. But most of us are not accustomed to day after day of 100-degrees-plus temperatures with high humidity; and it is the elderly and infants who are especially vulnerable.

It is plain that not all carbonated drinks are the same. Flavored carbonated drinks, then, are a good option for you and your kids, and perhaps even for your elderly neighbor. We must accept our responsibility as our brothers’ keepers.
