Anyone Have Experience Trying To Bring Their Natural Nails Back To Health?

  • Sharebar

I have had artificial nails for at least 7 years. I now want to remove them. I know my natural nail bed is going to be weak, sensitive and brittle. What products work best to restore health to natural nails after years of abuse?

yes I had those artificial bed killers,I went and purchased nail vitamins first inside, rubbed olive oil on them daily, always wear gloves when doing anything in water or anything else that could harm them. Once a week rubbed olive oil on the nails and on my hands then petroleum jelly then the non powdered latex gloves over night. Over a year later with out wearing any nail polish ever!!! and Buffing them with vit c & e oil they started to heal, GOOD LUCK and Have fun.

Well, you can go on this website and you can find some tips on how to make it healthy again.http://free-beauty-tips.glam.com/nails.h...

Purchase some nail polish remover with acetone and put it in a glass dish and soak them off. It will be a somewhat slow process, but if you go to the salon to get it done they will most likely “pop” them off which really hurts and does lots of damage to your nail beds. If you soak them off, put a towel over them while they’re soaking so you don’t get all the fumes. Use an orangewood stick to gently remove them once they get soft enough to do so. After you’ve gotten all of the residue off of your natural nails, shape them up with a nail file and gently push back your cuticles. Don’t cut your cuticles because if you cut them too much you can allow them to get infected. Clean off your nails and make sure they are free of oils. I would recommend Nail Envy by OPI, the original formula. It has directions inside the box that it comes in, but I always told my clients to put 2 coats of it on then one more every other day to help strengthen and protect your nails until a whole new nail grew in. Definitely use a cuticle oil or balm every night before you go to bed, massaging it in gently, which will stimulate the nail beds to grow and keep your cuticles soft and healthy. Remove all of the Nail Envy once a week and start over again with 2 new coats. You can wear polish over it too if you would like to, just use a good top coat (OPI is really great, the fast drying one) to seal the color with. Taking prenatals is great for your nails too when you’re trying to grow them out. Any kind will be fine. If you can afford to get natural nail manicures, that will help a lot too! Hope this is all helpful for you!

I did that about a year ago!! Though I wasn’t wearing them for seven years, I know what you mean. Well, when you get them taken off ask your nail tech what she recommends, however. . . This is what I did. Take some of your favorite (fragrance-free of course) lotion and take enough to cover your palms and put it in your hand, break a vitamin E capsule in your hand and mix the two. Rub into your hands just like lotion and pay special attention to massaging your nail beds. I did this every night as well as took a Prenatal and a calcium supplement. I also used a strengthener that my nail tech recommended, but it’s been so long that I don’t remember what it was. It will take a while, your current nails will need to grow out so that the new healthy nail can come in, so don’t get discouraged! Good luck!!
