Paraben Free Skin Care
December 22nd, 2008 -- Posted in Natural Skin Care | No Comments »Parabens in our skincare present an ongoing problem because they
penetrate the skin as soon as they are applied. We know this because they
can be traced in the bloodstream just minutes after applying a paraben
laced cosmetic or cream.
What are Parabens?
Parabens are added to cosmetics to prolong their shelf life and although
they are very useful, there are concerns about the health risk as they
have been found in breast tissue, even in breast tumour tissue.
Parabens are also used to preserve certain foods. However the digestive
process usually takes care of the estrogen like properties of parabens
and they are excreted through the kidneys.
What is a problem is that so many people are unaware of the risks of
parabens in their skin care. Underarm deodorants may be a particlar risk.
The questions are, Are parabens more risky than the germs and microbes
they are supposed to protect us against? Should we only be using paraben
free products?
